FAQs

  • A doula is a trained and compassionate professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to expectant individuals and their families throughout the pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods, helping them navigate the journey of pregnancy and childbirth, offering comfort, advocacy, and guidance, and ensuring a more positive and empowering birth experience.

  • A doula is a non-medical professional who offers emotional and practical support to expectant individuals and their families, focusing on comfort, education, and advocacy during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, while a midwife is a healthcare provider with medical training who offers clinical care, including prenatal care, delivery assistance, and postpartum care, with a focus on the physical health and safety of the pregnant person and their baby. The primary distinction lies in their roles and responsibilities, with doulas providing emotional and informational support, and midwives offering medical care.

  • While a doula cannot provide medical interventions like epidurals or perform caesarean sections, they can certainly assist and support you in making informed decisions about your birth plan, providing emotional encouragement, comfort measures, and helping you navigate the hospital environment. Doulas can play a vital role in advocating for your choices, explaining medical procedures, and ensuring you feel empowered and informed throughout the process, even if medical interventions become necessary, to promote a positive birthing experience.
